I have been very fortunate in the past and present to own and also campaign some sensational horses. The horse that undoubtedly is who I owe so much to be where I am today is my very special ‘France’. France is a 17hh Warmblood gelding and he came into my life 4 years ago.
We have had many amazing memories together in the competition arena, just playing around at home (he has the most incredible temperament and is such a character it is hard to not fall in love with him) and watching others have their dreams made riding him.
One fond memory I have without being in the competition arena was just a month ago I decided to take France to the beach with some friends. Something I had never done and neither had France. It was a beautiful morning, France absolutely loved it, he is such a funny horse and is always vocal 😂 when he was going into the crashing waves before he would swim he would make a loud groaning noise it was hilarious and I honestly could feel him smiling the whole time.
In the competition arena I have been lucky enough to continue having success with him carrying on from his incredible career. We have won Royal Championships, Reserve championships, Reserve @ Grand Nationals and 2 x Reserve at EA nationals along with many Royal show wins & placings, National & Royal show Childs champions and HOTY titles.
The one that I will never forget the workout and the feeling he gave me that day is the 2019 Canberra Royal Show Champion Show Hunter Hack Championship. Being called out as the winner was the best feeling in the world (I am an emotional girl and immediately I cried) the hard work that we had been putting in for the previous year after France had emergency colic surgery, a move across the country to Adelaide to move into the Oakbank team and have Chris and Vicki as my mentors and then coming back out with France having him feeling and the looking the best (all barastoc fed) I could have dreamed of having him was above and beyond what I’d imagined possible.
Favourite food & what I don’t like?
My favourite food is fresh sushi and Mexican and I am not a fan of pavlova! My horses favourite are definitely Licorice and a mouthful of Breed and Grow pellets as they walk past the feedroom to the wash bay 😂.
What makes you really happy and your favourite thing to do?
What makes me really happy is to being surrounded by the people I love - my amazing friends and beautiful family. Being able to do what I love training and looking after horses everyday and learning something new everyday. My favourite thing to do is riding late in the afternoon almost dusk and watching the sunset whether that’s on a horse or not.
What do you love about horses & favourite discipline?
There is a lot to love about horses, their size, faces, those eyes but the thing I most love about horses is that when they trust you and you have that special bond with them there really isn’t a better feeling for me.
My favourite discipline is showing of which I when done almost Most of my life and dressage - it is only new to me at a competition level and I am really enjoying it.
Future goals?
The goals I have for the future are to produce, train and show beautiful horses along with continuing learning the higher levels of dressage with this year starting at my first PSG 🤞🏻.
Equine Idol?
I can’t say I just have one, I am surrounded some amazing people and people I have looked up too for a very long time and will continue too. Chris & Vicki Lawrie (Ma&Pa), Lyndal Oatley & Heather Currie.
Who is your biggest supporter?
I have a fabulous support unite, my Mum got me into the horses and took me to all my competitions as a child, I have amazing friends and mentors in Chris and Vicki but it is undoubtedly my biggest supporter is my Dad. I am lucky enough that he loves the horses, is a competitive man as well and shares the same passion for boats as I do for horses. Without him all I do wouldn’t be possible ❤️
