What do you love most about your horse? I love Bobby because he is the most quirky and cheeky horse that I have ever met but also the most giving and the hardest working horse ever. His personality is very easy to love and he is very in your face but in a loving way. He always puts you first and he really is just like a big Labrador.
Funny habits, how does your horse make you smile? When he wants attention he grabs onto your clothes and tugs on them until you give him a cuddle. He also LOVES a wither scratch and when you give him one he drools and licks and loosed control of his lips (it is the cutest thing EVER).
Horse’s Name: Equus Upstart
Height: 16hh
Colour: Black
Breed: Warmblood
Discipline: Show Jumping
What do you love most about your horse? He is very young but has a huge amount of potential. He has a huge scopey jump, but he is also very cheeky. I hope to take him all the way up to Mini Prix but I believe he has the potential to go all the way to Grand Prix.
Funny habits, how does your horse make you smile? My favourite habit of his is that he always gets grumpy when you say no more treats. When you run out of carrots he has to search all your pockets and then when he has done that he storms off back to his friends. He also likes to run around the paddock with you and so we often play chasey.
What do you love most about horses? Horses are the most challenging, but rewarding things in the world. Some days you think you have it all together and then the next the horse has changed slightly and you are back where you started, but when it all comes together at the right time it is so worth it. For the feeling that you and your horse are both working together and you are both so happy.
Do you have an idol in the Equine World? I have two Idols in the Equine world. One is my coach Megan Jones. Megan is the most hard working and determined person I have ever met. She has been through so much in the past 3 years and watching her still keep her head up and still be determined in just so inspiring. My other idol is Tom McDermott, he is a very young rider but he has an amazing way of riding that makes it look so effortless and he is always riding the nicest horses. I have been able to watch him jump at many comps and have always taken an interest into how he rides and especially his balance over the fence.
Who is your biggest supporter? My biggest supporter would have to be my dad as he has been with me for all of the ups and downs and even when I had lost confidence or hope he was always there helping me achieve my goals.
Describe your favourite horse memory? My favourite horse memory was when my family and I packed up me and my first pony and drove 3 days all the way to Interschool Nationals in Toowoomba. My first pony was amazing and taught me so much and we ended up coming 3rd overall in the Primary 80cm SJ and equal 6th in the 90cm SJ. He had very severe ulcers when we bought him and it was a very long road to get him to where he got to and just being there with him and competing against all the other amazing ponies is such a big memory for me.
What are your ambitions or dreams with your current horses? With my current horses, I hope to move up to 130cm/135cm with Bobby and Uppi I hope to take as far as I can weather that is Mini Prix or Grand Prix.
Where do you see yourself riding in 5 years? In five years I hope to be Overseas riding around one of the big showjumping circuits wether that is in Europe or the USA. I also hope that I am working for a big rider in their stables.
Why do you want to be part of the Barastoc Junior Squad? Being on the Barastoc Junior Squad, would be a great opportunity for me to further my riding with a likeminded group of people in an environment that is supportive and where I can learn. I would also like to learn more about what is best to feed the horses and how some feeds are more beneficial than others my for my discipline.
How do you think being a member of the Barastoc Junior Squad will help your riding? I think that being on the squad will allow me to find new feeds that may better my horses more than what I am currently using so that I can achieve my current goals and work towards my bigger, long term goals.
Which Barastoc Ambassador would you most like to meet? I would absolutely LOVE to meet Russell Johnstone as he is an amazing rider who has done very well with his career.
Have you fed Barastoc to your horses in the past? If so, what products did you use? All 4 of my horses are on Calm Performer everyday and I like it because it doesn't make them hot or crazy but also makes sure that they have energy. I have also used Spedi-beet on my previous horses and swear by all of the Barastoc products.
